More memory making holidays possible for families coping with serious illness or bereavement

Miles Coverdale Lodge No. 5069 in the Province of Devonshire, raised £300 for Torbay Holiday Helpers Network (THHN), a charity which provides free holidays to families who have seriously ill children, families who are recently bereaved and families who have a terminally ill parent.

The lodge hosted a unique Carol Concert in the underground chambers of Kents Cavern prehistoric caves, in the run up to Christmas 2015, when the forty-strong Yours in Harmony, an all-ladies close harmony cappella chorus, entertained the 80 guests to carols and favourite showcase songs. The audience was then led on a guided tour of the famous Torquay caves and enjoyed a candlelit sing-along.

Nick Powe, owner of Kents Cavern and WM of Miles Coverdale said: “It’s been many years since we have put on a Carol concert in the caves. The event sold out and how nice it is to see the proceeds going to THHN, a local charity we support throughout the year with free cavern visits for families the THHN are helping. The event was a great success and Yours in Harmony are booked to return on 15th December this year.”

Luke Tillen, THHN Founder said: "I would like to offer my sincere thanks to all at the Miles Coverdale Lodge, for their incredible support of our charity, by hosting this very special and unique fundraising event! We were honoured to be the benefiting charity and we truly value and appreciate such support, that enables us to continue to provide families affected by serious illness and bereavement with free fun filled, memory making holidays."

Eva Larsen, responsible for promotions at Yours in Harmony said: “I am delighted that our choral group has yet again been able to support THHN with this underground event. We always enjoy singing in these caverns. The acoustics are exceptional and all the ladies are looking forward to returning in December.”
